Family and friends of the New Braunfels Police Department gathered at the police station Friday afternoon for a promotion ceremony of 13 officers, more than 10 percent of the sworn force. According to Police Chief Ron Everett, these promotions mark a new era for the Police Department. “These new supervisors will allow us to providing even more extraordinary service to our community,” he said.

The department promoted a new assistant chief, three lieutenants, five sergeants and four senior officers.“I’ve seen these officers grow since they were rookies,” said Mayor Bruce Boyer. “These promotions prove their dedication to our community and residents.” Police Chaplain Art Guerra opened the event with a prayer for the officers and their families.“Everything here is an accumulation of hard work, dedication and service,” he said. “Our police work tirelessly and continuously study to do a better job; that’s what this ceremony represents.”Everett shook the officers’ hands with a smile and handed them their new badges. Families were invited to the front to help pin them on.Joe Vargas, the department’s new assistant chief, said he was proud of the exemplary work they have done.

Many within the department are excited about the changes.“We are headed in a new direction with some high expectations,” said newly appointed Lt. Mike Penshorn, “but we have a good crew that will perform to the expectations of the community and everyone else.”
